Meals with a little TLC too
Sydney woman Kathleen Kinchington has been delivering meals to older people for the past eight-and-a-half years.
Kathleen is a courier for the organisation Tender Loving Cuisine (TLC).
"By providing healthy, nutritious meals to the elderly, it allowed them to stay in their homes longer," Kathleen said.
"When they get their meals home delivered it cuts down on a lot of stress."
"For a start they don't have to go shopping for the food or prepare the meals and they don't have to wash up the pots and pans afterwards."
TLC delivers home-style meals to the aged and people with disabilities in Sydney, Newcastle and the Central Coast. The organisation was born in 1995 when a close friend of Chief Executive Officer Jack Barker had a car accident and sustained serious brain damage. To help out, Jack arranged meals for the family during his recovery.
Professors at Royal North Shore Hospital recognized the need for such a service and an agreement was made with NSW Health. The organisation does not receive Government assistance, and relies on its committed team to keep the service running.
Its range of dinners includes lamb, pork, turkey and beef roasts, mild chicken curry, apricot chicken, lamb casserole, crumbed fish and wedges and baked ocean fish. Meals are clearly labeled and can cater for people with special diets. Many meals have the Heart Foundations' tick of approval.
