The TLC Story
Our founder and Chief Executive Officer, Jack Barker, commenced his career opening an Accounting and Business Management practice in Canberra in 1967. During the following years he established a joint venture with a local business executive who joined in servicing clients through his interstate accounting associates' network.
Many years later Jack was shocked to hear a radio broadcast that reported this same business executive had been involved in a serious motor vehicle accident and had received severe facial damage with loss of 28% of his brain matter.
After finally being moved out of Intensive Care at Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney and following several months recuperating in hospital, Jack assisted with nutritious meals to help with his recovery. This service was recognised by a senior professor at RNSH who commented that such a service would be a very worthwhile benefit for many of their discharged hospital patients - and from that moment Jack took up the challenge.
During 1995 this idea progressed to the registration of the business name Tender Loving Cuisine (TLC) on the advice of a large advertising agency, that all discharged patients 'would need some TLC'. The hospital concept then progressed to the stage of Jack entering into a formal agreement with NSW Health to provide home delivered meals and dinners to discharged hospital patients from Royal North Shore Hospital and the Northern Sydney Area Health Service.
TLC's aim was to provide a unique meal service providing home style, healthier meals to people recuperating, or who were unable to cook regular healthy meals for themselves on a day to day basis. This service soon extended to most public and private hospitals, and also to government agencies and home care organisations, that wanted a premium quality meal service that was both nutritious as well as convenient.
Today TLC is proud to say that health professionals in most public and private hospitals refer their discharged patients to the TLC ready meals service throughout NSW and Canberra(ACT & Queanbeyan), Gold Coast and Victoria. This organisation also now includes individual clients seeking a premium quality meal service at home.
