Wheels turn on service
A Home delivery meal service originally started at Royal North Shore Hospital for its discharged patients is now available to people living in the Great Lakes.
Tender Loving Cuisine is operating from Forster Tuncurry and supplying meals prepared in Sydney by restaurant quality chefs.
Its CEO, Jack Barker, said TLC had a long term goal of providing high quality alternative meal service to seniors wanting to live longer in their own home.
The delivery service for the Great Lakes is being managed by Matthew Laurie and his wife Terese Pasolini, who operate an ice service business in Tuncurry.
Mr. Laurie said that the meal delivery service began last month and was supplying meals to people around Forster Tuncurry and Green Point and as far north as Coffs Harbour.
"Our aim is to expand the service to include Kempsey, the north, down to Bulahdelah and across to Gloucester and Wingham."
"Before we started I tried one of the meals and couldn?t believe how good they are. I suggested to Terese that they were so good she might not have to cook anymore."
Mr. Laurie said refrigerated vans used by the couple's ice business were being used to transport the meals to customers.
"The meals aren't just for people who are aged or infirm and prefer to have meals delivered, they're available to anyone who, for whatever reason, doesn't want to cook or prefers to have a range of quality meals ready to go in their freezer."
Mr. Laurie said that the price of meals ranged from $10 for a 340 gram pack to $11 for 400 gram pack with a minimum order of seven meals.
One dollar from every order was being donated to breast cancer research.
The chief executive of TLC, Jack Barker, said Matthew and Terese had grown their own business by providing good service to their customers.
"They are sincere, caring people and their desire to help others comes from the heart. Success by helping others is very rewarding, which is why TLC fits nicely into their future goals."
The meals provided by TLC have been snap frozen for transport and storage and will keep in a freezer for up to six months.
They come with heating instructions and serving suggestions and can be prepared within six minutes using a microwave oven or 30 minutes with a conventional oven.
There are 28 dinner meals in the selection and most are suitable for dietary needs or to meet special nutrient criteria.
More than half of the meals have the Heart Foundation Tick of Approval.
